Things you love to do and things you are good at!

What we love to do and what we are good at are two ends of a common thread. Usually, it is in our nature to love what we are good at; however, we may not be good at all things we love to do.

As I look back into my life 15 years ago, my answer to what I loved to do as a teenager would be — ‘I love to dance’. And today as a grown-up, I love to travel, I love to design, I love to listen to music, I love to express my thoughts in the form of writing, I absolutely love to spend time with my loved ones, I love listening to people talk about life, I love exchanging thoughts and ideas to understand different perspectives, and with all this, I still love to dance as well. Over the years, my exposure and awareness influenced and brought changes in my list of things that I love and those that I am good at and this journey shall continue to evolve with time.

Often the answer to what we are good at and why we are good at a particular task lies in what we love to do. We can mature and grow on what we love and therefore become good at it as well. That said, if we do what we are good at, we may come to love it more if we push for excellence. Success and acceptance have a significant role to play in the things that we are good at.

Eventually, the common factor between what we love and what we are good at becomes our passion. Pursuing what we are good at instead of what we love might make us more money but might not lead to happiness; whereas pursuing our passion will make life happier and may end up bringing more wealth and opportunity in the long run.

Learning to strike a balance between the heart and the mind is important, where passion lies in the heart and profession in the mind. All that matters is which one is heavier in the weighing scale of our lives and as long as we are ready to pay the cost of one over the other with our circumstances allowing us to do so.
