Problem of Plenty
After giving the festive season a miss in twenty-twenty,
We’re all set, to get back to small gatherings with a safe entry;
Whether it is eating, greeting or meeting,
The portion sizes have surged from basic to big;
After the season of home-made Dalgona coffee and baked banana bread,
We’re back to relishing the chef-cooked meals and so much more unsaid;
Immunity boosters and Nani Maa’s kaadha have taken a back-seat,
The comfortable home slippers have been replaced by the heels that tire the feet;
Trying and buying of Diwali outfits won’t stop,
There’s no way the market of fancy lights and candles would see a drop;
The spend on mithai will again be much more than one family can consume,
Buying crackers and new vehicles will once again resume;
Leisure travel wouldn’t stop even at the cost of multiple PCR tests,
Airlines and hotels are back in business accepting special requests from their guests;
Well! Of course, we deserve to do all of the above and much more,
But we must not forget why Corona did knock on our door;
When we go beyond the basic, defying all laws of nature,
Life has its own way to pause, to show us the true picture;
Also reminding us of what’s written in our scriptures;
If ever again we land up in a world that looks like twenty-twenty,
Remember we must, that we have created a ‘Problem of Plenty’.
Reap the consequences of anything over-done,
Repenting for it later is sure no fun!
